Many know that The George Washington Masonic National Memorial is one of Alexandria’s most striking and recognizable landmarks. But did you know that within the memorial’s walls is a stunning array of marble rooms and elegant facilities suited for both large-scale and small, private and public events?

Originally built in the 1920s, The George Washington Masonic National Memorial is an impressive multifunctional space that operates as a memorial, museum, active Masonic temple, research library, performing arts and cultural center. The nine-story neoclassical structure, maintained by the Freemasons of the United States in memory of George Washington, is held within the Masonic fraternity. It serves as an important cultural landmark for Alexandrians, a community gathering place during major holidays, and a venue used by prominent organizations in Alexandria.

Today, the George Washington Masonic National Memorial offers an impressive range of rooms for both small and large meeting groups available for booking, including Memorial Hall, Memorial Theater, The Grand Masonic Hall, The North Lodge Room and more.

Its long and colorful history makes this meeting spot an exciting spot to discover endless stories dating back to the early 1850s. Today, the Athenaeum serves as a celebration of regional arts, showcasing the talent of artists featured in rotating art exhibitions, dance and musical performances, poetry readings, and other literary events.

The upstairs galleries hold up to 100 people for standing parties or 60 to 80 people for a seated reception with a dance floor, gleaming pine floors, and up top. A charming brick-walled courtyard spans 450 square feet, providing an intimate outdoor space for up to 50 people standing or 50 seats for closer conversations and ceremonies.
