Alexandria, VA Attractions and Businesses Are Open During Government Shutdown

The federal government shutdown is affecting communities across the Washington, D.C. region, including Alexandria. In response, Visit Alexandria is highlighting open museums, offering free Key to the City attraction passes, and promoting special offers from local businesses. All attractions, restaurants, shops and hotels remain open and operating as usual.

Visit Alexandria has launched a dedicated webpage highlighting things to do in Alexandria during the government shutdown: https://visitalexandria.com/governmentshutdown/

Additionally, D.C.-area hotel guests and federal government employees can claim two free Alexandria Key to the City Attractions Passes (a $60+ value) at the Alexandria Visitor Center. Each pass includes admission to 9 historic sites, plus coupons for 40% off tickets to George Washington’s Mount Vernon, tall ship Providence, and City Cruises’ Potomac Water Taxi.

To claim passes, hotel guests must present a room key or digital reservation confirmation, and federal employees must show a valid government ID in person at the Alexandria Visitor Center (221 King Street).

Visitors and locals are also invited to explore Alexandria’s neighborhoods, including Old Town, the city’s nationally designated historic district, and enjoy:
