Tall Ship Providence
Tall Ship Providence serves as a floating classroom, educates visitors on the role that the Continental Navy (particularly Providence) played in the American Revolution and showcases Alexandria’s history as a port city. Providence is a replica of the first ship authorized to serve in the Continental Navy and John Paul Jones’ first American command.
Visitors to Providence have a chance to step back in time to see what life was like for sailors aboard this reproduction eighteenth-century sloop. Enjoy dockside tours at the new permanent home at Waterfront Park. The immersive experience includes an onboard trip back to 1776 as a sailor with the Continental Navy, an encounter with the legendary Captain John Paul Jones and a visit to the Senator John Warner Maritime Heritage Center.
In fair weather during the summer season, sunset sails are offered on the Potomac, and specialty sails…featuring selection of beer, wine and spirits from local businesses…run every Friday. You may also rent the ship for special tours or to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, or corporate event.
