Motherwell Distilling Co. is Alexandria’s only locally operating distillery within the beltway — a community-owned craft spirits destination built by and for the people. Motherwell brings small-batch distilling back to a city with deep roots in American spirits history. We create spirits that reflect the city’s history, values, and character—blending time-honored methods with a modern perspective.

Our name ties back to our craft distillery in Ohio, as well as Motherwell, Scotland, long recognized as the spiritual home of whisky. That heritage, combined with Alexandria’s deep Scottish roots, inspires everything we do, from the barrels we age to the stories we tell. At Motherwell, we distill with purpose: to honor local pride, shared moments, and the joy of something truly well made.

Every release tells an Alexandria story, drawing from local landmarks and the city’s rich past. Visit the tasting room in Alexandria’s West End off Pickett Street to sample their first release, Brickwater Bourbon, and stay tuned for future releases of rye, gin, vodka, and rum — all distilled, blended, and bottled in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
