Carlyle House

A formal dining room with paneled gray walls, large windows, a red patterned carpet, and a table set for a meal with candles, a cake, and floral arrangements. Dark wooden chairs surround the table.
A white gazebo stands in a lush garden surrounded by pink flowers, green bushes, trees, and a manicured lawn, with brick pathways and buildings visible in the background.
Four people walk down a brick pathway leading from a historic stone building with two chimneys, framed by open black iron gates on a sunny day.

A Georgian manor house built in 1753 by merchant and city founder John Carlyle. Here, five royal governors and General Braddock met to discuss funding of the French and Indian War. Daily tours, youth programs, special events, exhibits and lectures offer visitors a chance to experience eighteenth century life through the eyes of one man and his family as he made the journey from English citizen to American patriot.
