Inauguration in Alexandria

From Our Partners

Inauguration Day on January 20, 2021, will look different than years past. President Elect-Joe Biden, Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris and their teams, along with D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, have advised against travel to Washington, D.C., to attend the ceremony in person due to a rise in COVID-19 cases. For those already in the area, you can honor the day by reading about Alexandria’s presidential connections and immersing yourself in Alexandria’s rich history with a guided outdoor Black history tour, a visit to George Washington’s Mount Vernon and more.

Face coverings are required in Virginia at all indoor public places, except when eating, drinking or exercising. Additionally, a mask is required when 6 feet of physical distance cannot be maintained, even outdoors. Please bring a face covering with you whenever go out, as it is not always possible to maintain 6 feet of physical distancing along the city’s sidewalks, parks and paths.

Note that there are numerous restrictions in Washington, DC for security purposes during the week of Inauguration. These restrictions include reduced access to the National Mall, closed Metrorail stations in downtown DC, closed museums, and no indoor dining.
